Visual Arts Department Highlights:
The Visual Arts classes at Maria Carrillo offer a wide range of course studies and curriculum.  From Beginning Art ,Ceramics and Film Studies, to Advanced and AP Studio Art, we are  proud of our tradition of excellence.  At the beginning level, students are shown the basics of drawing and shading, composition and history and traditions within the field of the arts.. Students at this stage are skill building a repertoire of techniques to use as they progress through each level. Though Visual Art is just one of the many choices available for the 10 Unit graduation requirement for the state of California, many students surprise themselves, and choose to take second and third year courses in art after their first year . Our arts classes foster a culture of  creative problem solving and risk taking. Students participate in group discussions and critiques; they attend field trips; enjoy visits with local artists;  share cross-curricular classes with others on campus (as of this writing, art students have exchanged ideas and projects with dance, drama, Leadership and biology).

Every Visual Arts class at MCHS is aligned with the A-G requirements.
