Graduation Requirements

MCHS GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

The Santa Rosa City Schools’ Board of Education established comprehensive, rigorous graduation requirements for high schools to ensure that all graduates are prepared to meet new challenges of the 21st century with flexibility, creativity, and a solid foundation of critical thinking and reasoning skills along with the ability to collaborate.  A diploma of high school graduation shall be granted to any student who completes 220 credits in grades 9-12 (please see below for specific coursework):

A.  History/Social Science

4 years (40 credits):

  • Humanities - 1 year
  • World History - 1 year
  • U.S. History - 1 year
  • American Govt. - 1 semester
  • Economics  - 1 semester

B. English

4 years (40 credits):

  • English 1/Honors English 1
  • English 2/Honors Ethnic Studies English 2
  • Ethnic Studies English 3/AP Language and Composition
  • English 4/AP Literature

C. Mathematics

3 years (30 credits):

3 years including Math 1P

D. Laboratory Science

2 years (20 credits):

  • Biological science - 1 year
  • Physical science - 1 year

E. Language other than English

2 years (20 credits):

Two years of the same language other than English

F. Visual & Performing Art

1 year (10 credits)

G. Elective

40 credits

Physical Education

2 years (20 credits)

Ethnic Studies

1 year

Graduation

220 credits for graduation

 

Students MUST pass all required classes with a D or higher in order to complete graduation requirements.  Students earn 5 credits a semester for each class they take.  If a student fails a required class, the class must be made up during summer school or through our credit recovery program
